Furniture retailers often ship furniture RTA which in the industry is short for (ready to assemble). This means that the product is shipped unassembled in parts and that there is some assembly required by the person receiving the furniture before they can use it. The reason for this is not to make it difficult on the person buying the furniture but as a means of packaging it in such a way to prevent shipping damage and by packaging it smaller it can ship by a less expensive means which helps to keep the pricing lower for the furniture. Some furniture is shipped assembled in the box though and depending on the size of the piece of furniture purchased you may need assistance receiving it so double check with the retailer if you are unsure. I always liked the retailer joke that said they tried shipping people with the furniture to assemble it but they often got lost or never made it back so they dont ship people to assemble the furniture anymore. (Anyone need me shipped to Hawaii to assemble some beds?) A very good question. Fortunately most furniture arrives just fine when shipped and rare is it that problems happen. However there are times when perhaps a forklift accidentally runs through a box or an item is accidentally impacted and its best to be prepared for what to do when this happens. Since it doesnt happen often, customers are not always prepared for what to do if their furniture has suffered damage in shipping.
There are people who report having lots of rashes and other skin ailments in areas that are most commonly in contact with solid wood furniture like chairs, tables and beds. Allergic reactions from the chemicals that are in wooden furniture are not a foreign sight. The chemicals and other preservatives added to the wood of non-organic furniture come in contact with the person using it, an allergic reaction may happen, or worse, the chemical may poison the person by seeping into his skin to his bloodstream. Getting organic bedroom furniture with no chemicals would eliminate the danger of this happening to you and your family.
Real Wood Shows its Quality. You can tell real wood from its smell, its feel and the glow that only comes from well oiled or waxed hardwood. Leather has its own feel and smell, although its not so much the leather that counts, but its quality. Many types of leather are so thin that you can easily stick your fingers through them - and dont believe anybody that sells you furniture saying that it cannot be damaged. Fine furniture can be damaged - it can be knocked, scraped, stained and scratched just the same as any other furniture. If somebody tells you that this table will resist all knocks and scratches then they are either being economical with the truth (lying) or trying to sell you a synthetic utilitarian piece. Genuine wood is vulnerable. Only thermosetting resins can resist knocks and scratches. The same considerations are true whether you are purchasing furniture from Chicago, Miami or from furniture stores in Atlanta. Atlanta furniture stores are just as likely to sell you cheap lounge furniture as stores in Chicago. How can you tell? How do you know if you are buying a genuine hardwood dining table or one made from particleboard and cheap veneer?
That is a major reason for organizing furniture events. To keep the customer aware of new designs and concepts, and occasionally to reward them for their business with reduced prices and discounts on selected products. It is combination of a thank you and a form of advertising. Local craft fairs are another form of furniture event. These enable local people (or sometimes not so local!) to display their handiwork. Local furniture makers can show off their skills, and this can be a good platform for locals to persuade city showrooms to sell their products. Not only that, but furniture distribution centers may be seeking new sources for their furniture. Amish furniture, for example, is often hand-crafted by individuals in their own homes or workshops. The Amish then transport each piece to a central distribution center from which it is delivered to the furniture retailer, showroom or directly to the customer. A large proportion of Amish furniture made in this way is crafted to order. The customer can choose a piece from a showroom display or a catalog. The order is passed to the distribution center and passed onto individual craftsmen and women who then hand make it.
Furniture is shipped several different ways when you purchase it online and when you buy online it is important to read on the website how the product is being shipped so that you are prepared at the time of delivery to receive your new furniture. Most sites are pretty good about sharing this information to their customers so that they will have an idea of how the furniture is coming and who will need to be home to receive it when it comes. Below are the three common ways furniture is shipped when you purchase it online. These are common services used by many online retailers and is used typically for items that are RTA (Ready to Assemble) furniture. [More about this later.] This packaging is small enough that one person can easily manage it and the retailer will usually provide you a tracking number that you can use online to track your package for the date of delivery. The delivery driver will usually bring it to your door but if you live in an large apartment complex or on a second floor they usually deliver to a central location. These delivery drivers usually run the same routes every day and typically will come with the delivery around the same time frames of the usual deliveries they do in that area. There isnt a way to schedule a delivery time with this type of delivery as these companies are just too large with too many packages going through their systems to be able to set up timed deliveries so it is best to be able to have someone home to receive delivery on the day they specify or if you know your delivery driver and you live in a safe area where packages can be left at your door you can always leave a note to leave your package.
A major benefit of such furniture events to the general public is being able to view new products often before they are available on general sale. Its the old story: many new products or even new ideas in furniture design or functionality fail to sell because few people know they exist. These types of exhibitions are not so much sales on furniture as furniture shows, during which orders can be take, but are primarily intended to show people what is available and which furniture stores and outlets are offering them.For that reason, many items of furniture can be sold at lower prices than normal. They are not offered at reduced prices because they are in anyway imperfect. In fact, some could be introductory prices for completely new designs and concepts. However, by selling a restricted number of items at a reduced price, a particular manufacturer can get his products known and furniture distributors and outlets get feet through the door. It is well worth the cost reduction of a particular item to bring a new customer into the showroom. The livelihood of both the maker and the seller of the furniture depends on the customer. It is a three-way arrangement. There is nothing to be lost by offering a customer a concession now and again, particularly if that person returns later to make more purchases.
